Continuing to Make Markham Safe
The City of Markham is commencing the detailed design of 12 locations of Traffic Signals and Pedestrian Crossings through several communities. This program is part of a City-wide initiative to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety at several locations throughout the City.
The City has retained Arcadis Professional Services (Canada) Inc. (Arcadis) to provide Detailed Design consulting services for this project. Design Notices have been distributed to stakeholders and impacted residents.
Study Area
The Program is spread out over 12 sites and includes new or upgraded Pedestrian crossings; and new or upgraded Traffic Signals. The project sites are as follows:
This project involves engineering design of the above noted project sites, and depending on site, may include:
• New or upgraded traffic signals and pedestrian signals
• New or upgraded signage
• New or upgraded Street lighting
• Restoration and modification of curbs, sidewalks, and pavement markings
• Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliant upgrades
• Utility relocations
• Adjusted pedestrian crossing locations
Site Activities During Design
Residents are advised to expect the following activities throughout the on-going design process:
• Utility and geotechnical crews performing site investigations, soil investigations, and tagging of trees and utility markings
• Detailed design of the proposed traffic signals and pedestrian crossings, including an assessment of potential impacts and mitigation measures to determine a design that is safe and minimizes disruption to the community
