Overview

Markham is growing and our community’s need for parks is growing too. Many parks were built a long time ago and no longer match what today’s residents need. The Parks Redevelopment Strategy will help the City of Markham plan park redevelopments in a clear, organized way. The goal is to make sure all residents have safe, accessible and enjoyable parks for many years to come.

What is the Parks Redevelopment Strategy?

The Parks Redevelopment Strategy and Implementation Plan will guide how Markham chooses and invests in upgrading certain parks over the next 10 years. Right now, the City repairs park features when they reach the end of their useful life, but some parks need more than this. Some parks need a full redesign to reflect changing community needs, new recreation trends and current accessibility standards. This strategy will help the City of Markham clearly and fairly decide which parks should be redeveloped first, using data and community feedback.

The work being done now will:

  • Check the current condition of parks and their features.
  • Learn about community needs and new trends in how people use parks.
  • Identify gaps in what parks offer and opportunities to make them better.
  • Help ensure that high‑quality parks are available in all neighbourhoods.

Get Involved

The City wants to hear from staff, residents, and community groups so that the strategy reflects local priorities. Through surveys, interactive maps, and open houses, we are collecting feedback on how people use parks today and what improvements matter most.

You can help shape the future of Markham’s parks by:

  • Using our interactive map to show which parks you visit and which ones need improvement.
  • Completing our survey to tell us what is most important to you.
  • Attending an open house to learn more and share your ideas in person.
  • Signing up for project updates so you don’t miss important steps.
