2026 Traffic Signal and Pedestrian Crossing Program - Construction
Contract: 236-T-25
The City of Markham has commenced the construction of five (5) traffic signals and four (4) pedestrian crossings (PXOs).
The City has retained Beacon Utilities Contractors Limited to provide construction services for this project. Construction Notices were distributed in March 2026 to stakeholders and impacted residents.
The following locations will be constructed:
Traffic Signal Intersections
PXO Locations
Bur Oak Ave and Williamson Rd (Ward 5)
Bur Oak Ave and Country Ridge Dr/Fred McLaren Blvd (Ward 4 and Ward 6)
Bur Oak Ave and Donald Sim Ave (Ward 5)
Bur Oak Ave and Emery Hill Blvd/Hillwood St (Ward 6)
Kirkham Dr and New Delhi Dr/Ironstone Crt (Ward 7)
9th Line, North of 14th Ave (Ward 7)
Village Pkwy, South of Briarwood Rd (Ward 3)
Village Pkwy, North of Wentworth Crt (Ward 3)
Village Pkwy and Landmark Crt (Ward 3)

Traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, streetlights, and all associated underground infrastructure.
Removal and replacement of existing sidewalks, curbs, asphalt, and medians, as required.
What to Expect During Construction
Traffic delays, lane closures, noise and other inconveniences.
The City will not be responsible for damage to any privately owned items on City property.
Work Hours
Most of the work on this project will take place Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM, with some work on weekends as required.
Pre-Construction Inspection
Surveyors, under contract to the City of Markham, will survey to confirm location of existing infrastructure. This survey will be conducted within the City’s Right of Way.
Site Safety
Workers on site are responsible for the work assigned to them. If you have construction questions – ask to be directed to the site inspector. If the site inspector is unavailable, contact the person listed in the "Who's Listening" section to the right.
Road and Sidewalk Access
To complete the work in a safe manner, there will be road and sidewalk restrictions within the work zone. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Traffic Management
Road users should expect minor delays.
Restoration
The construction work area will be restored with sod, concrete and/or asphalt where required to its initial condition.
