Contract: 103-T-26

The City of Markham has commenced construction of the Sidewalk Completion Program across five (5) locations.

The City has retained VBN Paving Ltd to provide construction services for this project. Construction Notices were distributed in August 2026 to stakeholders and impacted residents.

The following locations will be constructed:

The City Contractor's Scope of Work

  • Construct new concrete sidewalks including new or modified concrete curbs, tactile plates, pavement, and proper connection to existing structures.
  • Relocate, replace or install new streetlights and fire hydrants.
  • Remove trees that conflict with sidewalk construction.
  • Plant new trees.
  • Intersection improvements, pavement markings and signage.
  • Reinstate disturbed areas and restore as required.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Work crews will mark the locations of underground utilities, such as gas, water and cable so that the construction work does not interfere with these utilities.
  • You may experience minor traffic, noise, and other inconveniences. The City will make best efforts to reduce the impacts. We appreciate your patience.
  • The City will not be responsible for damage to any privately owned items on City property.

Work Hours

Most of the work on this project will take place Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM, with some work on weekends as required.

Pre-Construction Inspection

Surveyors, under contract to the City of Markham, will survey to confirm location of existing infrastructure. This survey will be conducted within the City’s Right of Way.

Site Safety

Workers on site are responsible for the work assigned to them. If you have construction questions – ask to be directed to the site inspector. If the site inspector is unavailable, contact the person listed in the "Who's Listening" section to the right.

Road and Sidewalk Access

To complete the work in a safe manner, there will be road and sidewalk restrictions within the work zone. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Traffic Management

Road users should expect minor delays.

Restoration

The construction work area will be restored with sod, concrete and/or asphalt where required to its initial condition.
