The City of Markham honours the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.
Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, and longest-serving woman head of state in world history. Her reign saw the Queen as the head of 54 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years of her reign was marked in 2022.
Among her many accomplishments, Her Majesty dedicated her life to public service, and was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations, of which 36 are in Canada.
The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and The Duke of Edinburgh first toured Canada in the fall of 1951. Since her accession to the Throne, Her Majesty has completed more royal tours in Canada than to any other Commonwealth country. The Queen's 2010 tour marked her 22nd official tour, and final tour of Canada as our Queen.
The City of Markham extends its condolences to His Majesty, the King on the passing of his mother, and to The Royal Family.
For those wishing to share messages in memory of The Queen, the virtual Book of Condolence will be available until September 29.
May she rest in peace.

Queen Elizabeth II was quite simply our Queen to my family, which hails from Ottawa. Being in the capital city we had a fortunate vantage point through which to see her on numerous visits. Her gift of herself to not only the UK but the Commonwealth Nations, especially Canada, has not gone unnoticed, as witnessed by the vast outpouring of love at her passing. She will be sorely missed by me and my family.

Deepest condolences to the Royal Family. When I immigrated to Canada 20 years ago and then became Canadian Citizen in 2006, I had to pledge allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II. I never thought how proud I would become of the Queen due to her example of devotion and dedication to work throughout her life. Thanks to the Queen for contributing to make me a better Canadian citizen. Rest in peace.
