The City of Markham honours the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.
Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, and longest-serving woman head of state in world history. Her reign saw the Queen as the head of 54 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years of her reign was marked in 2022.
Among her many accomplishments, Her Majesty dedicated her life to public service, and was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations, of which 36 are in Canada.
The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and The Duke of Edinburgh first toured Canada in the fall of 1951. Since her accession to the Throne, Her Majesty has completed more royal tours in Canada than to any other Commonwealth country. The Queen's 2010 tour marked her 22nd official tour, and final tour of Canada as our Queen.
The City of Markham extends its condolences to His Majesty, the King on the passing of his mother, and to The Royal Family.
For those wishing to share messages in memory of The Queen, the virtual Book of Condolence will be available until September 29.
May she rest in peace.

During your long reign as Queen of England you always showed compassion, wisdom, and strength. May God keep you and cherish you as we here in the USA always have. Your passing means the end of an era and the beginning of another. Please look down on us and pray for us.

Condolences and prayers for the Royal Family during this very difficult time. You have a very special place in our hearts both from our Hong Kong and Canadian ties. Thank you so much for your neverending devotion to your country, the commonwealth and all its people. Your strength, tenacity, courage and wisdom has been a very great example to me & many others out there, especially young women, that we can too become great leaders. Thank you for all that you have done for us during your reign. You will leave a big hole in our hearts. May God continue to provide peace and comfort to all during this time.

Your Highness, you are a very rare symbol and leader who had contributed the world with your sole existence. You are a unique symbol of peace, humbleness, freedom and unity to this broken world. As a Hong Konger in Canada, I remember the brightest days of British rule in Hong Kong during your reign before 1997. Your images and values as a constitutional monarch are deeply remembered in my heart.
