What is a Secondary Plan?
A secondary plan builds on the policies in the City’s Official Plan to guide the development or redevelopment of a specific geographic area. It contains more detailed policies than the policies in the Official Plan and includes policies for:
Why does the Secondary Plan for Cornell Centre need updating?
The City of Markham's Official Plan 2014 requires that a new Secondary Plan be prepared for Cornell Centre. Initial work on a Secondary Plan for Cornell Centre was begun in 2015. In 2023, as development activity in Cornell Centre increased, the Secondary Plan project was restarted with the goal of completing a new Secondary Plan for Cornell Centre based on the original work that had been undertaken and the current Planning policy framework.
Which area will be covered by the new Secondary Plan?
A map of the study area can be viewed on the front page of 'Your Cornell Centre'. The study area covers approximately 244 hectares on Markham's eastern urban edge, north and south of Highway 7 between Ninth Line and Reesor Road.
What is the process to update the Cornell Centre Secondary Plan?
The project will be carried out in multiple phases, and is currently in Phase 3: Stakeholder and Public Consultation, as outlined below.
