About this Project

In the past, many cities assumed most people drive, leading to high parking requirements. Today, better parking management, especially in areas with good public transit, makes it easier to choose other ways to get around, like walking, cycling, carpooling, or taking the bus. This approach, known as Transportation Demand Management (TDM), helps reduce the need for personal cars, lowers building costs, improves public spaces, reduces traffic, and cuts down on pollution.

Embracing modern TDM standards aligns with the City’s 2020-2026 Strategic Plan to create a "Safe, Sustainable, and Complete Community." Together, we can create vibrant, people-centric neighbourhoods in Markham.

What are the goals of this project?

  • Update off-street parking rates.
  • Implement TDM standards for new developments.
  • Support the City’s vision of a sustainable transportation system.
  • Address impacts of removing parking requirements at Protected Major Transit Station Areas (PMTSA).

Public Consultation and Stakeholder Engagement

Engaging the public and stakeholders is essential to meet community needs. We'll offer several opportunities for engagement throughout the project. More details will be shared soon.
