The City of Markham honours the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, and longest-serving woman head of state in world history. Her reign saw the Queen as the head of 54 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years of her reign was marked in 2022.

Among her many accomplishments, Her Majesty dedicated her life to public service, and was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations, of which 36 are in Canada.

The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and The Duke of Edinburgh first toured Canada in the fall of 1951. Since her accession to the Throne, Her Majesty has completed more royal tours in Canada than to any other Commonwealth country. The Queen's 2010 tour marked her 22nd official tour, and final tour of Canada as our Queen.

The City of Markham extends its condolences to His Majesty, the King on the passing of his mother, and to The Royal Family.

For those wishing to share messages in memory of The Queen, the virtual Book of Condolence will be available until September 29.

May she rest in peace.

Being named after the Royal princesses, Margaret Elizabeth, I have followed the Royal Family my entire life. I have known no other Monarch than Queen Elizabeth II. She was a gracious, strong and dignified woman with a jolly sense of humour. Her life was an example to all the world.
I extend my deepest sympathy to her family. May she Rest In Peace.
Long Live The King.

Queen Elizabeth has always held a very special place in our family and in our hearts. She was truly amazing and inspired us all to live a life of service. The book "The Servant Queen and the King she serves" was a tribute for her 90th birthday. My husband met her twice and two of our children also were blessed to have a personal conversation with her and her death felt like such a personal loss for us as I know it did for many. She handled world affairs while also being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and did it with grace and dedication. I pray that her memory and legacy lives on with her family but also with all of us who have been influenced by her and admired her. May we also take up our calling and do it to the very best of our abilities and in loving service. We now need to support her family and everyone who will be feeling this loss personally and pray that her wisdom and discernment and joy for life as well as her faith and sense of purpose and calling will carry on through us all.

Farewell our Queen, thank you for your dedicated service. Thanks for devoting your whole life to your people, including Hong Kong, my home town, and Canada, where I call it my home. You are a great leader and a role model to many people. I am sure you are living happily with your dearest husband and Jesus in heaven. Sep 19, 2022 is a sad day for many people as we lost such a lovely Queen. However, it's not just a funeral, but a celebration of life. You have lived out your purpose of life. Your perseverance till the last day of your life is respected. May you rest in peace.
