The City of Markham honours the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, and longest-serving woman head of state in world history. Her reign saw the Queen as the head of 54 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years of her reign was marked in 2022.

Among her many accomplishments, Her Majesty dedicated her life to public service, and was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations, of which 36 are in Canada.

The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and The Duke of Edinburgh first toured Canada in the fall of 1951. Since her accession to the Throne, Her Majesty has completed more royal tours in Canada than to any other Commonwealth country. The Queen's 2010 tour marked her 22nd official tour, and final tour of Canada as our Queen.

The City of Markham extends its condolences to His Majesty, the King on the passing of his mother, and to The Royal Family.

For those wishing to share messages in memory of The Queen, the virtual Book of Condolence will be available until September 29.

May she rest in peace.

Queen Elizabeth II is a very unique lady of honor.

Her reign of 70 years will never go unnoticed or be duplicated.

Unfortunately, her legacy and reign had to come to an end.

May the Grace of God receive her with peace and ever lasting life.

Sincerely,
Gordon Francis

You have fulfilled your pledge and served your people well with kindness, selflessness and dedication your entire lifetime, a job not easy to do and a role model to world leaders.

Your smiles, waves and the sense of calm and reassuring messages delivered to nations during good times or bad will be dearly missed.

I have a deep attachment in my youth to the Queen and my school (a school of royal title in HK) which I am thankful for as it nurtured and made me who I am. You will always be in our hearts.

My deepest sympathy to the Royal family.
May you Rest In Peace in the loving arms of God and Prince Phillip. Amen.
