The City of Markham honours the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning British monarch, and longest-serving woman head of state in world history. Her reign saw the Queen as the head of 54 Commonwealth countries. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrating 70 years of her reign was marked in 2022.

Among her many accomplishments, Her Majesty dedicated her life to public service, and was patron of more than 600 charities and organizations, of which 36 are in Canada.

The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and The Duke of Edinburgh first toured Canada in the fall of 1951. Since her accession to the Throne, Her Majesty has completed more royal tours in Canada than to any other Commonwealth country. The Queen's 2010 tour marked her 22nd official tour, and final tour of Canada as our Queen.

The City of Markham extends its condolences to His Majesty, the King on the passing of his mother, and to The Royal Family.

For those wishing to share messages in memory of The Queen, the virtual Book of Condolence will be available until September 29.

May she rest in peace.

Right from the time I was born we admired the wall photos of the royal couple in our house which was adorned by our Dad in our tiny house in bombay( now mumbai). My Dad was a big admirer of the Royal Family and we as a family admired the grace, wit and poise shown by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her reign for 70 years. She was a shining light to all humans of all races, creed & colour and her words, deeds and actions have long endured in sustaining her legacy as a leader of the hearts of millions. RIP Queen Elizabeth II a royal lady and queen of the millienium and our planet Earth.

Like many British ex-pats, Queen Elizabeth II was the only Monarch for all my life.
She committed her life to working constantly for Great Britain and her Commonwealth nations, right up until 2 days before her death to acknowledge her 15th Prime Minister.
King Charles III will have a high bar to live up to.
