Your Markham Centre

** Consultation has concluded **

Markham Centre is set to become the City's vibrant, urban and mixed-use downtown, serving all of its diverse communities. To ensure Markham Centre continues to grow and evolve as a complete and integrated community, the City is updating the Markham Centre Secondary Plan, which was approved in 1997.

Over the last twenty years, many planning and development projects have refined the community structure and neighbourhood character; however, the original 1990s Markham Centre vision “to create a complete and integrated community, containing a mix of uses suitable to a City Centre, including recreational, cultural and institutional facilities” remains unchanged.

As the City embarks on updating the Secondary Plan this year, the Planning Department wants to hear from YOU.

Hello, I’m Jessica. I was born and raised in Milliken and still live there with my parents and sister. I’m a student at Bill Crothers Secondary School, so as you may have guessed, fitness is really important to me. I take the VIVA Green to school most mornings but walk when it’s really nice out. I’m excited for York U to open their campus nearby – I’m applying to go to York U next fall and hope that my program is offered in Markham.

We were looking for something that would be comfortable for us during the retirement years. I still work at a bank in Downtown Toronto, but I plan on retiring within the next 2-5 years.

Markham Centre was an easy choice. Getting to work is relatively easy as I catch... Continue reading

Hi, I’m David. I work at York University in the new Markham Innovation Hub call YSpace. We focus on supporting local entrepreneurs in both the technology as well as food retail space by providing incubation space, expertise mentorship, and access to various resources. I drive to work daily because I often have meetings and events across the City.

I live in Downtown Toronto and it takes me roughly 30 minutes with minimal or no traffic and up to an hour during... Continue reading
